Where to Stay in Curaçao with Kids: Our Honest Review of Mangrove Beach Corendon

If you’re planning a family trip to Curaçao and trying to figure out where to stay, you’re not alone — I went deep into the research rabbit hole too. With so many gorgeous beaches and colorful neighborhoods, choosing the right area (and the right resort) really does shape your entire experience.

We knew we wanted something easy with kids: beach access, on-site dining that didn’t require planning, and a pool where we could actually relax for more than 10 minutes. After researching what felt like every family resort in Curaçao, we landed on Mangrove Beach Corendon Curaçao All-Inclusive Resort, Curio Collection by Hilton — and after a full week there, I have a lot to say.

This post breaks down where to stay in Curaçao with kids, what we loved about Mangrove Beach Corendon, what we didn’t, and the other resorts we seriously considered along the way.

Best Areas to Stay in Curaçao (Especially for Families)

Before I get into our hotel experience, it helps to know a little about the island layout — because where you stay totally shapes your trip. Here’s the quick breakdown:

Willemstad

  • Location & Vibe: The vibrant capital of Curaçao, split into Punda and Otrobanda by the Sint Anna Bay. This area is historic, colorful, walkable, and packed with restaurants, shops, and cultural sites.
  • Distance from Airport: ~ 11 km (or about 7 miles)
  • Approx. Drive Time: 20–25 minutes by car
  • Why Stay Here: If you want to be in the heart of the action — historic sites, easy access to the floating Queen Emma Bridge, and walkable charm. Just note: many hotels here don’t have large, traditional beaches.

Piscadera Bay

  • Location & Vibe: A bay and neighborhood on the western side of Willemstad, south of the city. It’s more relaxed than downtown, yet still very accessible.
  • Distance from Airport: About 10 km (about 6 miles)
  • Approx. Drive Time: ~ 10 minutes (depending on traffic and exact location)
  • Why Stay Here: Great middle-ground — calm waters, easy access to both the airport and Willemstad, and several resort options.

Jan Thiel

  • Location & Vibe: On the southeastern coast of Curaçao. The Jan Thiel Lagoon area is known for its upscale feel, beach clubs, trendy restaurants, and nature.
  • Distance from Airport: ~ 19.6 km (12.2 miles)
  • Approx. Drive Time: ~ 28 minutes
  • Why Stay Here: Perfect for families who want a more resort-driven, upscale beach vibe with good dining, water sports, and a beautiful lagoon.

Westpunt

  • Location & Vibe: On the far western tip of the island. This area is quiet, nature-focused, and home to some of Curaçao’s most stunning and secluded beaches.
  • Distance & Drive Time: ~ 37 km (23 miles) and total drive time is 45–50 minutes. This is the farthest major region from the airport, but the trade-off is access to the island’s most beautiful natural beaches.
  • Why Stay Here: Ideal for nature lovers and families who don’t mind driving and want to escape the tourist hubs to enjoy rugged coastline, quiet beaches, and a laid-back pace.

Mangrove Beach Corendon’s Location

  • Location & Vibe: Just outside Willemstad, tucked into a little cove that’s part beach, part lagoon, and part mangrove preserve. It feels secluded, but you’re still very close to the capital.
  • Distance from Airport: Roughly the same as Willemstad — ~ 11–12 km, so about a 20-minute drive (similar to getting into the city).
  • Why It’s Great for Families: You get all-inclusive convenience, calm waters, waterpark amenities, and proximity to Willemstad without sleeping in the busy city.

Why We Chose Mangrove Beach Corendon Curaçao (Full Family Review)

(We stayed in March 2025, so everything below reflects the resort as of that timeframe). When we decided to take a family trip to Curaçao, our goal was simple: sunshine, easy days, and a place where the kids could swim from sunrise to sunset. I didn’t want to spend the week hunting down restaurant reservations or packing beach bags like it was a part-time job. We wanted a home base that made vacation feel like… well, vacation.

That’s how we ended up at Mangrove Beach Corendon Curaçao All-Inclusive Resort, Curio by Hilton. We booked it for the convenience, the pools, and the proximity to Willemstad — and, okay, the waterpark didn’t hurt either. My kids saw the waterslides and basically started packing their own suitcases.

Before I get into the good, the not-perfect, and the things I wish I’d known beforehand, here’s a quick look at why we chose it in the first place and how it stacked up for our family of four.

Why We Picked It

When we were planning this trip, our checklist looked something like this:

  • An all-inclusive option so meals would be easy
  • A big pool + family-friendly activities
  • A location close to Willemstad
  • Bonus points if we could use credit card points or at least earn some

Mangrove Beach Corendon checked every box — and the on-site waterpark immediately sealed the deal for our kids. After checking in, it didn’t take long for us to settle into a rhythm — swim, snack, explore, repeat. Here’s what stood out the most during our stay (and why our kids still talk about this resort).

What We Loved

✔ The Pools, the Waterpark, and the Beachside Playground. Between the main pool, the quieter adults-only pool, the kids’ splash areas, and the waterslides, the kids would’ve happily spent the entire trip in the water.

  • Waterpark hours: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
  • There’s also a really cute playground on the beach near the main restaurant — perfect for letting the kids burn off energy before dinner or bedtime.
  • One note: the main pool is fairly deep with no true shallow kids’ zone, so bring floaties or life jackets for little swimmers.

✔ The Small, Protected Beach. The beach here isn’t huge, but it is calm, protected, and great for families. No big waves, no crowds, and plenty of room to try out your snorkel gear.

  • Lots of lounge chairs and shade
  • Great views — especially when the cruise ships pull away
  • Easy, safe entry for kids

✔ All-Inclusive Convenience + Full Resort Amenities. We didn’t want to stress about reservations or constant planning, and the all-inclusive setup delivered exactly what we needed — especially with kids who want snacks every 30 minutes.

Amenities we used or appreciated:

  • Gym (This was a great option to have especially on pool days when we stayed at or close by the resort all day. We’d alternate watching the kids and hitting up the gym- and having it close by made this realistic)
  • Showers + changing areas
  • Free parking
  • Beach volleyball, table tennis, shuffleboard, boccia
  • Room service (10 pm – 6 am; not included in all-inclusive)
  • Car rental desk
  • Gift shop + ATM
  • In-house doctor (this was a lifesaver — literally). We needed the doctor when our daughter developed a nasty cough during our trip. I messaged the on-call doctor via WhatsApp and got a same-day visit right at the resort. About $200 later (Out of Network for our Insurance), we had a prescription and some peace of mind.

✔ Super Close to Willemstad. One of the biggest perks: we could pop over to Willemstad without making it a whole day trip. It made meals, wandering, and photos so much easier. Of course, no resort is perfect. Mangrove has a lot going for it, but there are a few quirks, surprises, and “good to know before you go” details that are worth mentioning, especially if you’re traveling with kids.

Things to Know (a.k.a. the Not-Perfect Parts)

✔ The Beach Is Man-Made. It’s pretty, calm, and safe, but not the wide natural Caribbean beach some travelers expect. If long natural beaches are your must-have, this might not be the best fit.

The Resort Is Large — and Shares Space With Cruise Ship Guests. This wasn’t a dealbreaker for us, but definitely something to know.

  • Cruise ships dock between the Rif and the Mangrove and can block the views. The resorts also sell day passes, so the pool and beach can get crowded so plan accordingly!
  • We never struggled to find chairs, but shade later in the day was tricky
  • Towel system is one-for-one with your towel card; towel hut closes at 6 pm, which felt early
  • Just an FYI about their sister hotel (Rif at Mangrove Beach): The Rif is next door and noticeably more upscale. Guests there have different restaurants and upgraded amenities.
    • If you stay at Mangrove Beach Corendon, you already have access to most of what makes the Rif great: the waterpark, some pools, and beach. But the Rif gives a more upscale stay, especially when it comes to room variety and restaurant options.
    • The Rif’s swim-up rooms and luxury suites are its big differentiators — perfect for couples or families who want more space or a little extra privacy.
    • Dining at the Rif is more “à la carte focused” and elevated, while Mangrove has a broader buffet + casual options.
    • If someone is willing to spend more, or use points, the Rif could be a great upgrade — especially for a more peaceful, luxury feel without giving up access to Mangrove’s fun waterpark.

Entertainment is Hit or Miss. There were nightly shows, kids’ dance parties, and karaoke. The kids loved participating, and my husband even won a game by the pool one afternoon — which scored him a bottle of their local Blue Curaçao liquor.

Standard Rooms (Pros and Cons). We booked the 1 King + 2 Singles Guest Room, which worked well for family of four.

Pros: The balcony was lovely — definitely worth opting for ocean view; Free Wi-Fi, coffee/tea setup, HDTV; Clean room and great daily upkeep

Cons: No closet — just a small armoire. We basically lived out of our suitcases; Not a huge room, but functional Also: I’d read a few scary reviews before we arrived and was a bit nervous — but we truly didn’t see anything concerning. No rats, no major cleanliness issues as I was led to believe after reading things online.

✔ Food Quality Is Good, But Expect “All-Inclusive Good”

Food is always one of the big question marks with all-inclusive resorts — and if you’re a foodie, this is definitely the section you’ll want to read. Overall, we found the food at Mangrove to be solid, family-friendly, and convenient, but very much in the “all-inclusive good” category. Nobody went hungry, but this isn’t a luxury culinary destination either.

We ended up treating the resort as our breakfast spot and occasional lunch backup, then heading into Willemstad or nearby restaurants for dinner. That balance worked really well for us, and honestly, I’d recommend it. A few honest notes before diving into the restaurants:
• The resort is clean, but with wind + beaches + crowds, perfection isn’t realistic.
• And like most all-inclusives, I always struggle with the food waste. We tried to use it as a chance to teach our kids about only taking what they’ll actually eat.

Here’s a breakdown of each dining option, what we liked, and what to expect:

Dining Options (Quick Breakdown)

✔ Breeze — The Main Buffet. This is where we ate breakfast every morning, and it was exactly what you’d expect from a large resort buffet: predictable options, fresh fruit, omelette stations, pastries, and plenty of kid-friendly choices. Breakfast was easy and reliable, which is really all we needed. Dinner at Breeze was a little more challenging. The line to get in started before they opened at 7 pm (which already feels late for most American families), and we occasionally struggled to find a clean table during peak times. It also felt a bit understaffed during the busier dinner rushes. There’s also a midnight buffet from 9:30 pm to 7 am — we never tried it, but it’s nice that it exists. Hours: Breakfast 7 am–11 am • Lunch 12:30 pm–2:30 pm • Dinner 7 pm–9:30 pm

✔ Cor & Don’s BBQ. This outdoor grill restaurant serves BBQ ribs, chicken, and Argentinian beef. You do need a reservation through their app, which we could never snag, but we weren’t heartbroken about it. The menu is very meat-forward and not necessarily what we were craving, but it’s a nice option if you can get in.

✔ Food Street. Food Street is located by the main pool and is perfect when you need something quick and casual. Think pizza, shawarma, fries, Dutch snacks, and ice cream. The kids never complained, but I personally found it hard to choose anything remotely healthy here. It’s great for a poolside snack — just know there’s no shade and it’s not meant to be your main meal. Hours: 11 am – 5 pm

✔ The Themed Restaurants (Sushi, Italian, Seafood). Mangrove has three specialty restaurants that offer a sit-down, multi-course dinner:

✔ Dushi Sushi Club — Fresh rolls, rice bowls, and Asian-inspired dishes.
✔ Ristorante Siciliano — Pizza, pastas, and risotto; very comforting.
✔ Tavern Seafood Restaurant — Red snapper, sea bass, and rotating seafood options. This was our favorite. The menu changed during our stay, and it’s located directly over the water, which is beautiful but very windy — bring a jacket. (All three require reservations and are open from 6 pm–10:30 pm. They’re definitely a step up from the buffet, but still firmly “resort quality” — not fine dining.)

✔ The Patisserie. This quickly became our morning coffee stop. Their lattes were great, and the small pastries and croissants were perfect if you wanted something light before breakfast. To be transparent, the desserts were a little bland — but the kids loved getting to order a treat themselves, which kind of made it worth it.

✔ Bars + Drinks. There are several bars around the resort, with the Flamingo Beach Bar being the standout thanks to its 24/7 hours and location right on the water. There’s also the Coco Pool Bar, which is exactly what it sounds like — a swim-up cocktail bar at the main pool. We didn’t try the Don Cigar Lounge, but it could be a fun option if cigars and whiskey are your thing.

✔ Room Service. Room service is available overnight, but it’s not included in the all-inclusive plan. Something to be aware of if your kids are used to late-night snacks and you don’t want to leave the room.

Overall Dining Takeaway

If you’re easygoing and appreciate convenience, the dining at Mangrove works well — especially with kids. But if food is a highlight of your travel style, you’ll definitely want to plan some meals off-property. Luckily, Willemstad is close, safe, and full of great restaurants.

Would We Stay Here Again?

Short answer: probably not — but not because it was bad. We just don’t typically repeat destinations, and while Mangrove Beach Corendon is a solid, family-friendly all-inclusive, it didn’t wow us enough to return unless we used points or had Hilton elite status for the perks. With that said, it’s a great fit if you want:
• an easy all-inclusive experience
• multiple pools and waterslides
• close proximity to Willemstad without staying in the city
• calm, shallow water for kids
• built-in entertainment so you don’t have to plan every hour

Probably not for you if:
• you want a long natural beach
• food is a huge priority
• you prefer a boutique, quiet vibe
• you want to avoid cruise-ship crowds

Our kids absolutely loved the pools and the waterpark. We loved the convenience and the fact that we could truly relax without over-planning. I joined a Mangrove + Curaçao Facebook group before our trip, and it ended up being super helpful for planning, day trips, restaurant tips, and even turtle sightings. If you’re dreaming of a quiet boutique resort with long natural beaches, this isn’t that. But if you want a fun, low-stress, kid-approved home base close to Willemstad, it’s a great pick.

Other Family-Friendly Resorts We Considered

Even though we chose Mangrove Beach Corendon, we looked at a few other resorts while planning, and they may be a better fit depending on your travel style.

Renaissance Wind Creek Curaçao Resort. A Marriott property located in Otrobanda, right next to the Rif Fort and the cruise port. It’s extremely walkable and great if you want to explore Willemstad on foot. Unique feature: it has a man-made “Infinity Beach” saltwater lagoon instead of a traditional beach. The resort feels modern and lively, with an adults-only section and a family-friendly area.

LionsDive Beach Resort. Probably the most popular family-friendly resort on the island. It has a natural beach, great snorkeling, easy access to the Sea Aquarium, and a more relaxed Caribbean vibe. Not all-inclusive, but beautiful.

Sunscape Curaçao Resort (All-Inclusive). The other big all-inclusive on the island. It has a lovely natural beach and tons of activities, but reviews were mixed — still worth considering if you want all-inclusive with a more traditional beach.

Avila Beach Hotel. Gorgeous, calm lagoon beach and a boutique feel. Great for families who want peaceful, upscale, not-all-inclusive vibes. Walkable to restaurants.

Curaçao Marriott Beach Resort. Beautiful property, modern rooms, and a calm beach. Not all-inclusive, but great for families who want a higher-end stay.

Tips for Choosing the Right Resort in Curaçao

✔ Think about your beach style. If you want long, natural beaches → look at Westpunt, Avila, LionsDive, or Marriott. If you want calm, shallow, safe for littles → Mangrove is perfect.

✔ Decide whether all-inclusive matters to you. Curaçao has great restaurants, so non-AI can be a perk. But for young kids? All-inclusive simplicity is unbeatable.

✔ Plan for a rental car. Not essential if you’re staying near Willemstad, but very worth it if you want to explore beaches like Cas Abao, Playa Porto Mari, or Grote Knip.

✔ Book early if you’re traveling during winter or spring break. Family resorts fill quickly, especially with European travelers. This was especially true for rental cars.

✔Look at the room layout. Suites and connecting rooms make a big difference on a family trip.

Final Thoughts on Visiting Curaçao with Kids

Curaçao truly surprised us, in truly the best way. The island is colorful, calm, welcoming, and so easy for families. Mangrove Beach Corendon ended up being exactly what we needed: a fun, convenient, kid-friendly home base with enough amenities to fill our days and an unbeatable location close to downtown Willemstad. Whether you decide to stay here or choose one of the other great options on the island, Curaçao is one of those places that feels both laid-back and full of adventure. And the best part? It’s a destination families can enjoy without overthinking every detail.
